I would like to welcome you to the website of Curragh Community College.
Our school caters for the educational needs of our students with a warm and professional approach which places building strong relationships at the centre of all that we do. Through the Community College model under the patronage of Kildare and Wicklow Education Training Board (KWETB), we provide a co-educational and multi-denominational education on behalf of the state to the young people of the Curragh and its surrounds. Our ethos is to deliver Excellence in Education to our Community in a spirit of Equality, Care and Respect.
Curragh Community College (CCC), previously known as Curragh Post Primary School, was established in 1933, initially to educate the children of the members of the defence forces. The school is currently located in the heart of the Curragh Army Camp and resides on the property of the Department of Defence. The School will be moving in the near future to a newly purchased site in the old Magee Barracks in Kildare town, thus maintaining our history and connection with the Defence Forces.
The school offers the following educational programmes, thus providing options to best suit our students' needs:
- Junior Cycle
- Leaving Certificate
- Transition Year
- Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
- Leaving certificate applied.
- The DEIS programme (including the support of the School Completion Programme (SCP) and Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)
Care of our students’ wellbeing is core to our work and so we have a programme of student support which is ever evolving and growing. Currently and led by our Care Team, Additional Educational Needs (AEN) team, Positive Behaviour Strategy Team (PBST) and our Guidance department we offer a wide range of supports including ‘Check and Connect’,Behaviour for Learning (BFL), Restorative Practice, breakfast and lunch clubs and a strong and fluid Additional Education Needs programme focusing on inclusion.
The school supports its teachers to avail of wide and varied upskilling and in-service opportunities to ensure the students experience is 'up to date learning' in an active learning environment. Education in Curragh Community College is learner centred and the aim of ‘opening the doors of the world’ to all the students is at the heart of the planning and delivery of education in the school.
I hope that this website gives you a flavour and snapshot of our school and the joy and enthusiasm of our daily work.
