Leaving Cert Vocational Programme

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Proramme (LCVP) is a Leaving Certificate with a focus on enterprise and preparation for working life. This two-year programme combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate with a focus on enterprise, work and the community. The primary goal of the LCVP is to prepare young people for adult life by ensuring that they are educated with an ability to cope and thrive in an environment of rapid change. Participants in the programme are encouraged to develop skills and competencies fundamental to both academic and vocational success. These skills and qualities are equally relevant to the needs of those preparing for further education, seeking employment or planning to start their own business.

The link modules are assessed by:

  • A written examination representing 40% of total marks
  • A portfolio of coursework representing 60% of total mark

The subject results are listed with the student's other results as part of their Leaving Cert.:

  • Distinction: 66 points (80-100%)
  • Merit: 46 points (65-79%)
  • Pass: 28 points (50-64%)

Some universities will accept LCVP as a subject and some third level insitutions will allow points as above as part of a student's best 6 grades for CAO entry prurposes.
