The Check and Connect programme is a teacher/student mentoring programme that aims to promote student engagement at school and with learning. Not only do our teachers act as mentors, but they also act as student advocates.
We work with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and The National Behaviour Support Service (NBSS) who help in the planning, implementation and mentor training needed for this intervention.
Each mentor links with one student every six weeks, checking in weekly to discuss how the student is doing and offering support.
Teacher mentors strive to:
- Build a positive relationship with a young person, including their family and the school.
- Encourage a student’s regular school participation in academic, social, and emotional learning.
- Keep school progress a relevant issue for the student and their parents.
The Check and Connect programme is currently organised by Ms Rebecca Jones and Ms Lauren Galvin.
