Welcome to the Art Department!
Ms A. Brennan and Ms N.Doran
Curragh Community College Art Department aims to develop the Junior Cycle student’s self-confidence, imagination & creativity through a broad range of art, craft & design activities.
We encourage students to explore and develop their own ideas and to find personal expression through their artwork. They do this through drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D construction, ceramics (pottery), and design. Through these disciplines, they also develop their critical & visual language skills, and engage with visual culture & art appreciation.
Assessment in Junior Cycle Visual Art
The assessment of Visual Art comprises of two Classroom-Based Assessments (CBA 1 & CBA 2) and a state certified project.
2nd yr: CBA 1 - this assessment is an art project carried out in class during Term 2. Students develop ideas in their visual art sketchpad leading to a realised artwork (i.e. a Lino Print). The result of this project appears on the students summer report and on their Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement.
3rd yr: CBA 2 - this assessment is carried out in Term 1. It is a project whereby students explore a theme, generate initial ideas and develop their concepts. Students present their work to their peers and teacher. This process leads student into the second phase of the CBA 2: the state-certified examination. Students reflect on the feedback from their presentation and proceed to create further significant developmental work in their visual art sketchpad and eventually create two realised artworks (i.e. a ceramic sculpture and a graphic design poster). This is examined by the State
