There are five interconnected strands in Junior Cycle Maths:

  1. Algebra and Functions strand
  2. Geometry and Trigonometry strand
  3. Number strand
  4. Statistics and Probability strand
  5. Unifying strand

Extra-curricular engagement

  • Maths week – problem solving competitions, puzzles, games and interactive Maths games using chrome books
  • π (pi) day celebrations
  • After school Maths club

We want to encourage students to develop their ability to think logically, strategically, critically and creatively. Over the three years of Junior Cycle Maths, students will engage with 34 learning outcomes that describe what knowledge, understanding, skills and values students should be able to demonstrate having studied Junior Cycle Maths.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in Maths competitions with students from throughout the country. Rich learning tasks and engaging learning experiences are completed over the three year programme to develop problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own work and make improvements. Work is assessed through self, peer and written assessment, written and oral feedback is given from the class teacher.
