Curragh Community College

History

Established in December 1933 by the Kildare County Vocational Committee, the school started as the Curragh Vocational School at the request of the Department of Defence to provide basic education for children in the Curragh Camp. The school closed during the Emergency years (WWII) due to the military situation and reopened in 1947.

Since then the school has grown and developed to become the successful, co-educational, multi-denominational college it is today. While remaining within the Curragh Camp and connected to the Defence Forces, the school has developed a broader community focus, serving the wider Curragh community with a focus on strong relationships and inclusive education under Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB).

There are plans to move to a new, purpose-built site in the old Magee Barracks in Kildare town in the future, continuing the historical links while catering for the needs of young people in the area.
