Today marks the start of Heathy Eating Week in Curragh Community College. At this time of year, we are often bombarded with information on the topic from all types of media. January is a good time to make some changes to improve our heath and starting with food choices is always a good place. It is important however, that when we seek information, we do so from reliable sources, as a lot of misinformation is shared online through social media and websites. This is something we will discuss with students across the week.
Across the week lots of lessons have been planned here in the school to improve everyone's knowledge on the topic. There are lots of whole school initiatives planned too including:
- 'Water only School' - we will remind our students to increase their intake of water, and that water is the only drink permitted during the school day
- Whole School Walk - a whole school walk is planned to coincide with the beginning of CPPS's 4-week Operation Transformation. There is still time to sign up and so we encourage you to speak to your child about getting involved
- Competition - a competition to design a heathy eating promotion Poster will be held with prizes for the best creations
- All junior cycle classes will attend healthy eating assemblies.
We will also be sharing healthy recipes, giving out free fruit on Friday, recording food diaries and promising to make 1 small change.
Parents can stay up to date and involved in the week by following our Twitter account and checking in on your child's dedicated Wellbeing Area of Teams.
Healthy food choices, quite often start at home. To support you in making good day-to-day food choices for you and your family, we recommend visiting https://www.safefood.net/ where there is lots of information about Healthy Eating Guidelines, Recipe Ideas, Budget Cookery and much more. There is also a healthy eating leaflet available on our website.
